Day Pupils

Day places without a bed

Everything you’d expect .. with or without a bed

Whilst the majority of our pupils board, we also offer day places for those looking to go home every day or a few days a week. Our day pupils can opt for a bed for the odd night and we offer a few places for those pupils not looking for a bed.

Pupils who take up these places join a boarding house, and are included in every aspect of the daily life of the school with their peers.

Day pupils arrive at 8.15am and leave at 6pm (the day service bus leaves at 6.30pm).

House life for day pupils

The house system at Bryanston is a central aspect of school life, with the day beginning and ending in the houses.

Pupils start their day at the house and head off to lessons, co-curricular activities and other school events, while also returning to the houses to refuel, prepare for sport, do homework and generally be part of house life.

My own space

Day pupils have a designated study area within their house, shared with other day pupils. The study area includes a desk and storage for academic materials, equipment for co-curricular activities and sports kit.

As pupils progress through the school, this study area becomes more important, with more opportunities for independent study.

Sixth Formers have the option to study in a setting of their choice in the main school but can still have the privacy of their own study within their house area after lessons.

Pastoral care

How the house works

Our 12 boarding houses have unique personalities and provide a home-like environment for pupils. The House Parent and their team provide excellent pastoral care and work closely with pupils, tutors, the wider staff team and families to support each child’s academic and personal development.

The House Parent lives in the house and is supported by live-in staff, matrons and a house team. The House Parent is a vital link between the school, the tutor and parents.

There is also the opportunity for pupils to apply for leadership roles within the house, either as House Prefects or Head of House.

The house vibe

Houses at Bryanston are bustling with activity, both planned and ad hoc by the house team and by the pupils themselves.

Day pupils are fully included in the social scene and are welcome to stay for evening events, after discussion with their House Parent first. Houses work together to create entertainment events and compete in house competitions.

House life is all about ‘having a go’ and encourages trying new things and taking risks, even if it means experiencing a ‘heroic failure’. These moments are celebrated just as much as successes.

How much can you fit into a Bry day?
