Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion

A safe, inclusive, and diverse community for all pupils and employees

We stand against discrimination and abuse in all forms on a micro and macro level. We make sure to combat any type of prejudice through our high standards of safeguarding and pastoral care.

Award-winning approach

We are proud to have received media awards for our approach to Equity, Diversity and Inclusion. Our unique approach ensures all pupils feel included, represented and celebrated.

Through constant and open discussion between all members of the Bryanston community we aim to create a culture that not only celebrates diversity and inclusion but weaves it into the fabric of the school.

We create space for conversation through campaigns, connections to educational organisations and pupil led groups. This ensures that, as a school, we are continually focused on building a progressive and tolerant community.

Quote

"It's no longer merely about having an effective, supportive, and adaptable DEIJ strategy. Schools should actively engage, empower, and educate pupils, staff, and parents on these sensitive and often emotionally charged topics. That's why we've made it our mission to pioneer innovative, collaborative, and all-encompassing approaches that extend beyond the boundaries of our school community."

Working with Bold Voices

For a number of years all year groups have attended workshops run by Bold Voices. The sessions discuss gender discrimination and gender-based violence and explore discriminatory behaviour such as sexist language and attitudes, considering how these might be harmful to others.

This is hard hitting stuff that isn’t easy to talk about. However, we feel strongly that it is important to have these conversations, particularly whilst our pupils are at such a formative age. The aim is for them to think about how they can treat each other with kindness and respect and prepare them for the world beyond Bryanston.

Celebrating Pride

At Bryanston we run a series of LGBTQ+ focused initiatives and conversations. Alongside our Pride Month acknowledgments, staff have had training with Dr Elly Barnes from Educate & Celebrate.

We also hold monthly mentoring for staff on how to encourage an inclusive culture for the LGBTQ+ community as well as weekly meetings for pupils who identify as LGBTQ+.

Black History Month

Every year we celebrate Black History Month with a pupil-led assembly which raises awareness and starts conversations about the importance of Black History Month and how we can go about learning more about it.
