Studying biology is a gateway to unravelling the complexities of life itself, from the smallest cells to vast ecosystems. Our teaching staff and state-of-the-art facilities create an immersive learning environment.

From the microscopic to the macroscopic, our comprehensive Biology curriculum explores the intricacies of the natural world.

Pupils engage with cutting-edge research, honing their scientific understanding. Through hands-on experiments, critical analysis of data, and collaborative projects, they develop essential scientific skills that extend far beyond the classroom. We encourage our pupils to question, investigate and think critically.

Our Biology curriculum

We offer a progressive Biology curriculum starting in Year 9 (D) and continuing through GCSE in Years 10 (C) and 11 (B). It also extends to A Level and International Baccalaureate Biology diploma programmes.

This scientific course blends factual content with cutting-edge applied science topics. It applies Biology to real-world situations, building upon prior knowledge and ensuring a contextualised understanding.

Exams prioritise applying knowledge to unfamiliar scenarios, while practicals are undertaken throughout the programme and assessed in written papers. It is a comprehensive journey that develops critical thinking, scientific skills and a deep appreciation for the subject.

Beyond the classroom

Exploring local coastal sites and the grounds of our 400-acre estate, pupils can immerse themselves in the rich biodiversity of these natural environments.

We also organise an annual trip to Monkey World, allowing pupils to observe and study animal behaviour first-hand.

Beyond Bryanston

Studying Biology offers pupils broad options for further education and various career paths. Many pursue higher education in Biological Sciences, such as Biology, Biochemistry, Genetics or Environmental Science. This can lead to various career options, including research, academia, pharmaceuticals, biotechnology or environmental conservation.

Others may opt for medical or healthcare-related professions, such as medicine, nursing or veterinary science. Biology also provides a strong foundation for scientific writing, science communication or education careers.
