Our recording studios provide a range of opportunities for external groups as well as pupils.
Band recordings can take place in the two live rooms attached to Studio 1, whilst The Elder Hall is suited to the recording of classical music and can accommodate medium to large ensembles.
The hall’s natural acoustics lend themselves beautifully to choral, solo instrumental and chamber recordings. The variable acoustic diffusers that line the walls make it a versatile venue also suitable for larger and louder ensembles.
The hall is fitted with a hanging Royer SF24 stereo ribbon microphone, patched into a Dante-enabled microphone preamp, allowing the transfer of audio across the purpose-built network to the Studio 1 control room. There are also up to 16 Dante-enabled microphone preamps in the Elder Hall for more elaborate recordings.
There is a beautiful Steinway Model D (from 2014) in the Elder Hall which is meticulously maintained and also available to hire for recordings. There is also a Yamaha C6.
