On Sunday 23 March, around 54 students from Bryanston and visiting schools took part in the inaugural Bryanston String Competition in partnership with Trinity Laban Conservatoire, London.
Nic Pendlebury, Head of Strings at Trinity Laban, adjudicated the grades 5-6 class, grades 7-8 class and the Trinity Laban class (for students playing at post grade 8 standard). Clare Rowntree, Head of Music and Performing Arts at Wells Cathedral prep school adjudicated the elementary to grade 2 class, and the grades 3-4 class.
The focus for each class was on the students enjoying the opportunity to perform in a beautiful Concert Hall and in front of a friendly audience. All students had prepared really well for their performances which made for a day of wonderful music making.
Particular mention should go to all the students participating in the Trinity Laban class. The standard was so high that Nic Pendlebury chose to commend them all. However, the winner of this class, Hugo S, was the standout performance of the evening and we look forward to welcoming him back to Bryanston in November when Trinity Laban professors return to give their annual orchestral student workshops and masterclasses. Hugo will feature in the end of day concert where he will perform a concerto movement with the Trinity Laban String Professors.
