Last week, Year 7 and 8 pupils enjoyed an outdoor camping adventure along the River Stour as part of Bryanston Prep’s new outdoor learning curriculum. The excursion, which integrated hands-on learning with nature, saw pupils working together on a variety of challenges over the course of the camp.
Under the supervision of the outdoor education department, pupils embraced a variety of activities such as canoeing along the river, team-building relays, climbing, abseiling, and low ropes courses. They also tackled problem-solving tasks and honed their navigation skills during nature walks.
Evenings were spent around the campfire, cooking marshmallows and storytelling, creating memories outside the classroom.
The camp, which takes place on the senior school site, provides an important bonding experience at the start of the school year, particularly for new children joining the school. The activities emphasise teamwork, encourage personal challenge, and lay the foundation for positive relationships throughout the year.
Year 7 pupils have already completed their first round of challenges, including canoeing, climbing, and problem-solving activities. Meanwhile, Year 8 pupils are set to begin their own adventures after the half-term break, with plans to take part in kayaking, caving, and bouldering.
These lessons form a key part of Bryanston Prep’s weekly timetable and will continue throughout the year, offering a broad range of outdoor learning experiences.
This innovative curriculum brings a fresh and exciting approach to learning. It takes children beyond traditional classroom settings, equipping them with valuable life skills in the great outdoors and gives them the opportunity to form stronger bonds with each other at the start of the school year.
