On Thursday afternoon, Bryanston Prep hosted its first House Music and Dance Competition at Bryanston Senior School. Pupils from Reception to Year 8 came together in their House groups, delivering a vibrant and spirited afternoon of creative performances.
The day began with a series of workshops led by the heads of music and dance, with support from senior school pupils, in which everyone worked hard to perfect their songs and dances. The competition was judged by a panel that included Head Richard Jones, Director of Music Mr Iles, and Head of Dance Miss O’Neil.
Families filled the audience, and watched the three Houses – Blandford, Pimperne, and Shillingstone – compete under the spirited leadership of their House Captains and staff.
While all three Houses delivered impressive performances, Shillingstone House was crowned the overall winner with their rendition of “I Just Can’t Wait to Be King” as their song, and “You Ain’t Never Had a Friend Like Me” as their dance. The judges praised the group’s “energy, enthusiasm, and clever use of lyrics to choreograph their moves.” Shillingstone’s soloist music section featured standout performances by Niamh and Skyela, both of whom were praised as accomplished and confident performers.
The event also included a wonderful performance by the senior school’s dance group, and a captivating solo vocal performance of “This is the Moment” from the musical Jekyll & Hyde by senior school pupil, Xandi S.
The day was a resounding success, with a warm and supportive atmosphere. It perfectly exemplified Bryanston Prep’s new core values of Creativity, Community, Compassion, and Challenge – principles that were proudly on display as pupils performed and supported one another, showcasing their talent and teamwork. The collaboration between prep and senior pupils further celebrated the all-through Bryanston community spirit.
Reflecting on the event, Head Simon Ridley said, “Thank you to everyone who took part. We look forward to many more celebrations of talent, teamwork, and creativity in the future. This new tradition is sure to become a lasting highlight in the Bryanston Prep school calendar.”
