On Tuesday 8 October, Year 8 pupils took part in the Bryanston Prep Mini-Model United Nations (Mini-MUN), hosted by the senior school IB pupils. This collaborative initiative offered a platform for younger pupils to experience global diplomacy firsthand while being guided by their senior peers.
Model UN is a widely respected educational simulation of the United Nations, where pupils assume the roles of international delegates. Representing various nations, pupils engage in debates about pressing global issues, reflecting the policies and viewpoints of the countries they represent.
This encourages a broader understanding of world affairs, while enhancing critical skills such as public speaking, debating, negotiation and research.
The event, which took place in Bryanston’s lecture theatre, was hosted by IB pupils as part of their IB CAS (Creativity, Activity, Service) projects. It involved all Year 8 pupils who debated the issue of climate change, specifically focusing on the challenges of global glacial melt.
The IB pupils, acting as facilitators, ensured the debates ran smoothly and the Year 8 delegates came up with insightful ideas and solutions, debating with intelligence and flair.
This Mini-MUN event showcased the collaboration between senior and prep pupils at Bryanston, highlighting the mutual benefits of mentorship, teamwork and shared learning experiences.
