Six junior musicians competed in the Saxton Instrumental Final on Wednesday 12 February.
Congratulations to Bella B (C) on saxophone, Bertie H (C) on euphonium, Arlo K (D) on piano, Rory L (C) on French horn, Katy N-S (D) on violin and Simpson W (C) on cello for taking part in the competition. Arlo K was the overall winner, and Bella B and Simpson W were awarded with ‘Highly Commended’.
The competition is named after composer and OB Professor Robert Saxton and all musicians gave an outstanding and highly mature performance. Our thanks to OB Dan Baker for adjudicating and giving some inspirational feedback to each of the performers.
Director of Music Xavier Iles, commented: “It was hard to believe the pupils were only in Year 9 (D) and Year 10 (C) as the performances were of such a high standard. Congratulations to everyone involved.”
