Our 1st VII travelled to the South West Regional Schools Netball finals held in Bournemouth on Saturday 3 February. Our participation in this highly competitive event, followed on from our senior girls winning the U19 County Tournament held at Bryanston last November.
The team played some super netball, building on their unbeaten record since the turn of the year. Although they were drawn in a tough pool that included the eventual winners of the tournament, they secured excellent victories against Torquay Girls’ GS, Truro School, Richard Huish College and Dauntsey’s School. They just failed to reach the semi-finals having been pipped by a solitary goal in an extremely tight game against Clifton College.
Our Head of Netball, Ceri Evans says ‘This tournament represented a real challenge for our team. I am so proud of the girls and how far they have progressed and developed as a team over the past year. They really have gone from strength to strength. Naturally, they were disappointed to just miss out on a semi-final place, but it was a great experience for every member of the team and they should all be very proud of their achievements to this point. I’m really looking forward to our remaining fixtures and seeing how we can finish off the term.’
Rory McCann, Director of Sport, comments ‘The pupils and staff have shown a committed and hard-working approach through the year. This started off back in the summer term, with girls competing in the summer leagues through to a busy and competitive cup and fixture programme since September. The girls have role modelled the behaviours we expect to younger girls at the school and they deserve great credit for this. They are reaping the benefits of their consistent approach to training on and off the court. These important training behaviours only promote our team-first approach to sport here at Bryanston.’
