The Pupil Voice: Introducing the New Heads of School

18 October 2024

In our latest blog post, new Heads of School Aoife L and Drummond B, discuss the strength of the pupil voice and explore the ways in which they feel Bryanston supports pupils as they transition from year group to year group…

As the new Heads of School at Bryanston, one thing that really stands out for us is how much the school values what we, as pupils, have to say. From day one, we are encouraged to share our thoughts, ideas, and even concerns – whether that’s in student councils, through our one-to-one tutorials, or in casual conversations with staff. It’s not just about us having a voice, but about our voices being truly heard and making a difference.

This year, there is an even stronger focus on giving pupils more opportunities to have a say in how things are run. Whether it’s small suggestions on improving daily school life or bigger discussions around events and initiatives, Bryanston is always open to hearing what we think. The feedback that we get from the student body helps shape the School as it moves forward, which is particularly important as we approach the School’s centenary in 2028. It’s empowering to know that, as pupils, we are part of building this community which we are so proud to be a part of.

Moving through the different stages at Bryanston is exciting, but it can also be a bit nerve-wracking. Whether you are coming up from Bryanston Prep or moving into Sixth Form, every step comes with its own challenges and changes – but what makes Bryanston special is how much support you get along the way.

In the younger years, the focus is on helping everyone settle in, finding what we are passionate about, and giving us the confidence to get involved in different activities. For those of us getting ready for exams or thinking about what comes after school, the School really helps us navigate future pathways. From one-on-one mentoring to career guidance, we have got all the support we need to feel prepared, no matter what path we choose.

One of the things we love most about Bryanston is that learning isn’t limited to just what happens in the classroom. Whether it’s sports, drama, music, or some of the quirkier activities like beekeeping or adventure training, there’s something for everyone. It’s not just about having fun (although that’s a big part of it!), but about pushing ourselves to try new things and develop new skills. We urge you to get involved and try out a new extra-curricular activity, even if it’s outside of your comfort zone!

This year, Bryanston has expanded its ECA offering even more, and it’s amazing to see how much is available to us. No matter what your interests are, there’s always a way to get involved, learn something new, and grow as a person. For us, that’s what makes Bryanston so unique, the way in which it nurtures such well-rounded individuals.

We want to help everyone and we’re here to listen. Come and speak to us and share your thoughts, or get in touch with us by emailing [email protected].
