Meals and Food

Wholesome and healthy meals

Healthy, wholesome, family-style food is an important part of life at Bryanston Prep.

Every meal is a nutritious and well balanced combination of foods. We understand that food is not just fuel and that positive mealtimes are essential for a good day at school.

In our Life Skills classes, our children learn about why certain foods are better at fuelling our bodies with energy, feeding our brains with essential nutrients to assist learning, and support mental and emotional wellbeing. Establishing healthy eating habits from a young age is important for every child’s learning and wellbeing.

Staff eat with children in the dining room, helping them develop table manners and good food etiquette.

Dedicated chef and a food committee

We have a wonderful team of chefs who plan and create all kinds of delicious dishes on a daily basis. We carefully select the range and quality of food that our children enjoy at school with individual preferences and special diets taken into consideration.

We also have a food committee, formed by the children, giving them the opportunity to give valuable feedback on our menus. We don’t just talk about likes and dislikes; we discuss the wider issues of how and where our food is sourced. This raises awareness and reinforces the importance of a healthy balanced diet from a young age.

Gardening club and home-grown produce

We have a gardening club which enables our children to grow some of our own food in the raised beds in the established apple orchard by our Forest School area.

Taking the ‘from fork to table’ motto one step further, our children enjoy cooking in our classroom kitchen. The classroom kitchen, part of the Life Skills programme, is an important part of the curriculum for all our children where they learn to prepare and cook basic recipes, as well as learn kitchen and food hygiene.
