SCHOOL LIFE

Co-curricular

We want our pupils to discover perspectives that go beyond what is said in the classroom.

Co-curricular

At Bryanston, creativity and unbounded thinking flourish throughout our community. Our co-curricular programmes enable pupils to focus on specific interests and discover their pioneering potential.

We challenge, guide and support our pupils through outdoor education, charity programmes, and other activities. We ensure they are exposed to a wide range of opportunities and projects that are both meaningful and joyful.

Thorold Coade, a former headmaster of Bryanston, believed that education is “the widening and deepening of the experience of life.” This philosophy thrives at Bryanston and is reflected in the high standards and variety of activities within our co-curricular programme.

Motor Racing ECA

Extra-curricular activities (ECAs)

We are proud of our extensive and diverse ECA programme, offering around 100 activities each term, including sports, arts, music and academic societies.

This variety ensures that all pupils can find an activity they will enjoy. We also encourage pupils to set up their own societies and clubs with the support of staff and fellow pupils.

The annual ECA Fair gives pupils the opportunity to ask questions, learn more about the available activities and sign up for the ones that interest them for the upcoming year.

What’s on offer
History of Bryanston - Building Greek Theatre early 1950s

Pioneering

At Bryanston, we believe in nurturing our pupils’ passions and teaching the values of empathy and leadership through community engagement. By participating in meaningful activities, pupils extend their learning beyond the classroom and make a positive impact in their day to day lives.

Founded on a culture of pioneering and innovation, Bryanston has always aimed to educate pupils to be change-makers in a number of different fields. Our facilities such as the Greek Amphitheatre and the old music school, were built by pupils involved in the pioneering programme.

We equip our pupils with the tools they need to become pioneers: imagination, the acquisition of new skills and engagement in impactful projects.

Pupils in years 9 to 11 (D to B) participate in pioneering activities weekly, while our Sixth Formers engage in pioneering through programmes like the International Baccalaureate, the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award and by taking on leadership roles in their chosen ECAs.

Our pioneering programmes include:

  • Tuesday Club: meeting local senior citizens fortnightly
  • SEN swimming and Riding for the Disabled
  • Local primary schools: working as classroom assistants and climbing instructors
  • Art: creating art around the school and in the local community
  • Estate work: maintenance of woodlands, pathways and the school orchard
Nepal Charities Fair

Charities and outreach

The Bryanston community has a long-standing tradition of charitable giving and active participation in outreach programmes. Pupils frequently support the efforts of national charities and respond to appeals from international organisations in the aftermath of both natural and man-made disasters.

Whole school charity events take place on three weekends a year, with the highlight being the A2 (Year 13) Charities Weekend, the largest of these events. Each spring term, pupils demonstrate exceptional dedication in fundraising and raising awareness within both the school and the wider community.

It is an opportunity for the A2 year group, led by the Head Boy and Head Girl, to showcase their pioneering and compassionate spirit. Each year the pupils choose a different charity to support, typically one that works with children. They organise a day of fundraising events, to which all parents are invited.

During the autumn term, we host the Nepal Charities Fair as part of our long-term commitment to various charities and organisations working with children in Nepal. Each school house organises a number of stalls around the school, culminating in a spectacular firework display at the end of the day.

Outdoor Education - Ten Tors 2023

Outdoor Education

There are many opportunities for pupils to experience an adventure, such as the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award and the Ten Tors Challenge.

Outdoor education enhances our pupils’ resilience, strength and increases the likelihood of them achieving their fullest potential in life.
