About our Equestrian Centre

Sophie Starr

Director of Riding and Equestrian Centre Manager

Bryanston is a BHS approved, 5-star rated riding school and livery yard. Pupils bring their own horses to school to enjoy a fun, caring and friendly environment in which to develop their riding skills.

Our coaching team foster an environment where improving technique and technical ability goes hand-in-hand with supporting personal growth and building confidence both on and off the horse.

“There is something about the outside of a horse that is good for the inside of a man.”

Who can ride?

The programme is open to boys and girls across all ages. It runs throughout the school year and there are opportunities to compete throughout the year with a range of competitions for all abilities.

We offer coaching to all levels of rider. Our riding programme covers Dressage, show jumping and eventing but the focus is on all riders developing an outstanding foundation in the fundamentals of riding.

Riders have the opportunity to work with our own team of coaches along with Judges, National and International competitors, bio-mechanists, and sports psychologist.

"Sophie Starr, the dedicated Manager of the Equestrian Centre, is my amazing trainer. Her trustworthiness and support have made her an incredibly important person to me and many others. She ensures that the children’s time at the yard is the highlight of their day. I've spent the last 10 months at Bryanston with my horse and haven't heard my mum worry about my horse's wellbeing once. This shows how well the horses are cared for and how much trust we place in the staff. It's been fantastic to have an equestrian centre that takes care of the horses as well as they do the pupils."

Riders will have the chance to join the this programme as Sports Scholars or as a member of the HPSP.

These programmes support our athletes across four areas:

  • Body (Strength and Conditioning)
  • Craft (Skill acquisition)
  • Mind (Sports Psychology)

"I was very lucky to be awarded an equestrian scholarship to Bryanston when I joined in the sixth form. To be able to bring my own horse to school, enabling me to ride and receive excellent coaching throughout the term as well as strengthening and conditioning for myself has allowed me to continue with my passion alongside finishing my education. It also means that I have been able to continue competing at a high level with incredible support from an amazing, knowledgeable and caring team."

"I love riding because it brings me a sense of freedom and adrenaline. It challenges me physically and mentally, pushing me to grow and excel. Being a scholar has given me the focus and information I need to further develop my skills and have a deeper understanding of the difficulties facing the sport. My passion for riding has grown and my skills have greatly increased as a result of this."
