Inspiring performance opportunities

Pupils have many opportunities to show their exceptional musical talents through regular concerts, band concerts, recitals, ensembles, masterclasses, and competitions.

Our pupils also have the privilege of performing in London venues such as Smith Square Hall and the majestic Old Royal Naval College.

Closer to home, pupils play for local audiences at venues like Poole Lighthouse, Christchurch Priory and Salisbury Cathedral.

The quality of the music produced by pupils is outstanding, and many gain places in national and county orchestras, university music departments and conservatoires.

Trumpet player in orchestra

“The facilities and resources at Bryanston are incredible; without them, I wouldn’t be the musician I am today. They have allowed me to control so many aspects of my music and develop it how I want. I’ve also enjoyed having access to state-of-the-art speakers, pianos, a bassoon, and good acoustics that help to bring my compositions to life with incredible quality.”

Chris Roberts-Pastor joined Bryanston as a music scholar in Year 9 and studied Music and Music Technology A Level. He left Bryanston in 2023 to work in a recording studio before pursuing music production.

Music Concert - Carmina Burana

“We are constantly offered opportunities to perform and grow as musicians. I organised my own concert with a friend, played a solo concerto with an orchestra at a Christchurch concert, and played in the pit orchestra alongside professional musicians for our school musical. We also have weekly Alexander technique lessons and accompaniment sessions, which allow us to focus on improving ourselves as performers.

“I used to have a limited repertoire for singing before coming to Bryanston, but after joining, my repertoire now ranges from opera to jazz. I am often encouraged to try out different styles and explore the entirety of my vocal range.”

Evelyn Chow joined us in the Sixth Form as a music scholar. When she left Bryanston in 2023 she was admitted into Junior Guildhall and was offered a place at Trinity Laban Conservatoire for Music and Dance. She is currently a student at King’s College London doing a music degree with a choral scholarship and is studying under Laura Jellicoe for the flute at the Royal Academy of Music.

Bryanston and Trinity Laban Partnership for Aspiring String Players

Bryanston is excited to announce a unique partnership with Trinity Laban, designed to provide exceptional string players (violin, viola, cello, double bass, and harp) with a seamless pathway from Bryanston’s 6th form to undergraduate study at Trinity Laban. This programme is tailored for pupils who aspire to continue their instrumental studies at Trinity Laban after leaving school.

Auditions and Programme Start: Auditions are held in Year 11 for entry into the programme in Year 12. Both Bryanston and Trinity Laban staff will participate in the audition process to ensure a comprehensive evaluation.

Programme Benefits:

  • Bryanston Music Scholarship: Successful candidates will receive a scholarship covering the cost of specialist instrumental tuition at Bryanston, weekly accompaniment sessions with a staff pianist, and weekly Alexander Technique lessons.
  • Academic and Co-Curricular Support: Bryanston offers a flexible academic and co-curricular package, allowing students ample time to practice their instrument. This package is customized to meet the individual needs of each student.
  • Mentorship and Tuition: Pupils will receive tuition from a Trinity Laban Professor twice a term. The Professor will act as a mentor, working closely with Bryanston teachers. Lessons will be a mix of face-to-face and online sessions, including three visits to Trinity Laban over the two-year programme for open days, concerts, and interactions with current students.
  • Application and Audition Support: Pupils will receive personalized support throughout the process of applying and auditioning for conservatoire study.
