Why do we play hockey?

Hockey allows pupils of all ages to face appropriate levels of challenge and support. It teaches fantastic invasion game skills as well as developing non-technical skills which can help with all areas of life.

Enjoyment and wellbeing underpin our success criteria. We understand that each individual is different and therefore this approach allows us to support and challenge in a way that allows all pupils to improve their skills on and off the pitch.

This inclusive approach also allows us to support more performance orientated pupils without segregating those who want to play for fun as we understand that all children deserve equal opportunities.

Since being at Bryanston, hockey has become so much more than just a sport. Each week I look forward to when I get to play with my team mates again. The coaches combine the perfect amount of hard work and fun both on and off the pitch and the hockey community is something that all players are proud to be a part of. Being a sports scholar has brought me new opportunities and the Performance Sports Programme is one of my favourite parts of life at Bryanston. It has been instrumental in my development as a well-rounded athlete.

Who can play hockey?

Hockey is available to boys and girls of all abilities. The Autumn term provides a comprehensive and competitive training and fixture programme for girls across all ages. This includes entry into county and national cup competitions.

Girls also have access to play club hockey and training in the Spring and Summer terms.

Boys have access to Hockey in the Spring term from Years 11-13. Boys in Year 9 and 10 can access hockey through the ECA programme. There are occasions where younger boys can play up in the senior programme.

Being a sports scholar has improved my game because it has made me see how much work you need to put in both on and off the pitch in order to be successful.  Having individual coaching sessions has been amazing but I’ve also understood that it’s not just about your own performance - you only play well when you all work together and to do that you need to build a connection as a team and look out for each other.

Heart, body, craft and mind

Our sports scholars and performance athletes benefit from our High Performance Sports Programme. They have access to cutting-edge technology, featuring 3D motion cameras, integrated force platforms, and an indoor track.

Our experts provide personalised guidance to enhance performance, strength and conditioning and facilitate efficient recovery.

I have had a great time playing hockey at Bryanston for the past two years. My game has significantly improved as a result of the one-on-one coaching and PSP sessions, making me stronger and more skilled. The friendships you form and the teamwork skills you acquire are the reasons I love hockey.
