Music Assembly from Composer and Teacher, Richard Nye
Richard Nye talks to the Prep School children about his musical collaboration with children in Ukraine.
Idyllically set in rural Dorset, Bryanston Prep School is a day and boarding prep and pre-prep school for boys and girls. Previously known as Knighton House, the prep school merged with Bryanston School in September 2022.
We pride ourselves on being a happy, creative, and forward-thinking place to learn with the freedom to explore. We help our pupils to develop a love of learning that will enable them to meet the demands of their current and future learning with confidence. By nurturing creative thinking, curiosity and individual spirit, we not only prepare our pupils for the important transition to their senior schools, but for their future lives.
We encourage parents to visit the school to see for themselves all that we have to offer at Bryanston Prep. We hold regular open mornings and offer individual visits each week.
Bryanston Prep School is delighted to announce that we have won the prestigious award for The Best of the Best Prep School for Country Prep in the latest edition of the highly acclaimed The Week, Independent Schools Guide!
Our IMAGINE scholarships, provide children with a unique opportunity to access state-of-the-art facilities, subject leaders, events, and teams from our senior school and are open to pupils currently enrolled in Year 2, Year 4 and Year 6, applying for places in Year 3, Year 5 and Year 7.
Our children are outdoors as much as possible, learning from and in nature, as we believe education stretches far beyond the classroom or desk.
Positioned in thirty acres of Dorset countryside, Bryanston Prep celebrates the curiosity and creativity of pupils. The beautiful grounds enable learning through play whether it be through building dens, forest school or looking after the animals. Outdoor learning is an integral part of our curriculum.
The creativity and confidence of our children is fundamental. Pupils are at the heart of the School’s ethos. From the age of three to thirteen, we want our pupils to foster a sense of adventure, a willingness to learn and experience all that Bryanston has to offer: creative learning, individual spirit and unbounded thinking.
Bryanston Prep is part of Bryanston, and as such, has access to world-class sport, art, music and DT facilities. The Prep School pupils enjoy a plethora of opportunities from rowing, fencing, adventure training to master classes in music. The equestrian facilities are a delight, and all pupils are encouraged to participate in riding.
Following the well-established Bryanston Method, the staff and pupils are pioneering one-to-one tutorials for eleven- to thirteen-year-olds. Boys and girls in years 6, 7 and 8 now have their own advocate, mentor, and champion to walk by their side for the rest of their prep school journey. This new one-to-one tutoring system helps to increase confidence, provides accountability, and opens up communication in a more relaxed environment which encourages deeper questioning and development.
Our small classes allow for individual attention and the benefit for the child to go at their own pace.
Getting to know each child in an authentic way, allows our teaching team to understand our pupils as individuals, recognising their strengths and weaknesses and being able to tailor teaching to suit them.
The value of a child being in a small class (say no more than 18 to 20) cannot be underestimated. Over a week, a month, a term and a year the cumulative one-to-one attention from teachers adds up to provide a significant advantage for our children.
